Whither twin waste bins, babus wonder
Kukatpally: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)’s outsourced employees have been complaining about residents who have started dishing out plastic bags filled with wet and dry waste and state that they misplaced the twin bins that were given to them. The wet and dry trash segregation programme started by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) under Swachh Telangana is not being implemented in most parts of the city. Blue and green bins were distributed to citizens.
A mobile app was also created to connect people. Even the caller tune of GHMC officials is related to dry and wet trash segregation in spite of the entire corporation failed to continue the segregation. Senior officials when on a surprise check found the twin bins missing in several homes. Also in some trolleys there was no separate section of dry and wet waste. “Dumping both kinds of trash in the same vehicles without segregation by trash pickers was shocking for us,” said a home maker from Chanda Nagar.
Denying negligence on the part of GHMC, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Venkatanna said: "GHMC is particular about cleanliness officers regularly visiting the areas and creating awareness among people about segregation we are imposing fine on any kind of negligence by trash pickers. Citizens also need to come forward and cooperate to keep the city clean. Without the help of the public we cannot succeed."
