Inner Ring Road turns mishap-prone

Update: 2018-11-09 05:30 IST

Phisal Banda: Following damages due to the ongoing construction activity on the Inner Ring Road, the number of potholes and dup-up spots on the stretch from Owaisi Hospital to Chandrayangutta has gone up alarmingly, posing risk to motorists. Most of the accidents have taken place during night time due to poor visibility. Locals say that besides potholes formed during the rainy season, the road was dug-up a month ago as part of the ongoing flyover works and, as usual, it was not properly repaired following completion of the same.

The motorists, especially those who are unaware of the road condition, finding the road wide enough press the accelerator and speed up their vehicles until it bumps into a pothole or some other obstacle in the middle of the road. “Nearly five serious accidents took place in a week’s time. Most of the victims avoid lodging complaints at police station and take treatment from private hospitals. Hence, the mishaps happening here are far more than the official data. On Saturday, Ashok Kumar, a software engineer travelling from Santosh Nagar to Bandlaguda got seriously injured after his bike skidded on the damaged road,” informed a resident, Mohammed Ishtiyaq Ahmed.

Also, there are no caution boards installed near the construction site on the main road from Phisal Banda to Chandryangutta. On several occasions, the issue was brought to the notice of the local authorities including GHMC and traffic police, but to no avail. The residents and hawkers lament that there has been no response whatsoever from the officials in this regard. “No human effort is seen on these roads for months.

Hence, dust and waste have accumulated right in the middle of the roads, which is not visible during night hours,” said Syed Imran, a hawker and a witness to some of the accidents. Following the recent accident, Kanchan Bagh SHO, N Saidi Reddy has also given a complaint to the GHMC authorities over a telephonic call. He told the The Hans India that this road has become too dangerous for commuters. He observed that the contractors of the ongoing works have left the road in worse condition and it was their responsibility to repair the road,” he argued.
