Red Cross brings smile to orphans on Diwali

Mahbubnagar: The Indian Red Cross Society members celebrated Diwali with orphans and mentally disabled children at Yenugonda on Wednesday. The Orphanage centre and Shantivan—a home for the mentally disabled children is run by Indian Red Cross society. 

With an aim to give a sense of homely feeling to the mentally ill and orphan boys and girls, the Red Cross Society under the chairmanship of Dr Ambati Natarajan organised various cultural programmes presented by the children, which attracted one and all present on the occasion.  Kumari Kranti Reddy, IAS, was invited as the Chief Guest for the event. 

While speaking on the occasion, Kranti Reddy said, “the little orphan and mentally ill children have a bright future, if they are properly groomed with good education. With education, all these little kids can achieve greater heights in whatever fields they choose,” said Kranti Reddy. 

Adding further, she said that with education these kinds should also be trained in cultural, sports and arts fields where they can utilise all the available opportunities and achieve pinnacle in their chosen fields. 

Giving them hope and confidence, Kumari Reddy said that the children should utilise the facilities and services provided by the Red Cross Society and excel in their chosen fields. 

Later, the IAS officer gave away bags to the children and took breakfast with them. Earlier, while speaking at the event Dr Natarajan explained various programmes and services they are providing for the orphan and disabled students.
