Thandas miss out on MB water, go thirsty
Peddamul: Though the State government’s prestigious ‘Mission Bhagiratha’meant to supply drinking water to each household in Telangana has been receiving accolades from other States, the tribal Thandas in the mandal are still struggling to get a pot of drinking water. If one visits the Thandas of Kandanelli, Omla and Atkur, he will be welcomed withoutdated telephones, bent electric poles, thatched huts with stone walls and women folk standing in long queues at bore well.
According to anthropology, the availability of water source indicates how much civilisation in that area has taken place. In that case, the above said Thandas are far away from it. The permanent drinking water scheme inaugurated with much publicity lost its purpose with the motor meant to supply water to the Kandanelli Thanda has not been repaired for long. Now the residents of the hamlet are highly dependent on a bore well at government school located more than a km away from the Thanda. The situation at Omla Thanda is no different as the residents are forced to depend on bore well present in farm fields. The people from Atkur Thanda have been facing hardships in getting water even to fulfil their basic needs.
