Congress, TRS workers clash over fencing of transformer
Mattampally ( Suryapet): The injury of a child due to electric shock from the transformer and later efforts to erect the wall around it led to a clash between Congress and TRS workers at a village in Suryapet district on Wednesday. As many as 20 people were injured in the clash.
This incident took place at Raghunathapalem village of TPCC chief Uttam’s Huzurnagar constituency in Suryapet district . According to sources, the Electricity department had installed a new transformer near a shop at Raghunathapalem and ignored to fence it.
A kid named Babu while playing with ball near unfenced transformer got electric shock and lost one of his hands. Expressing the anger, villagers staged protest before the Transco office and demanded a wall be erected around the transformer to avoid accidents but in vain.
Expressing ire over TRANSCO officials apathy, few villagers on their own expenses tried to fence the transformer with boundary stones and iron wires.
Meanwhile, the nearby shop owner raised his objection over fencing and entered into an argument with them. In no time, TRS workers of the village came in support of the shopowner, who is a supporter of TRS. At the same time congress workers and leaders of the village came in support of villagers, who were fencing the transformer.
With in no time, as many as 200 supporters of both the parties rushed to the spot and clashed with each other with sticks and by pelting stones.
In this clash as many as 20 villagers got injuries.
On receiving information about the clash, Mattampally police rushed to the spot and scattered the mob with lathicharge and took 25 persons into their custody.
Police imposed Section 144 in the village to control the situation. Police suspect hands of anti social elements in the clash to create unrest in the village in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
