Congress still holds up six seats of TDP, TJS
Hyderabad: The Congress party has not only delayed in selecting its candidates but also held up the announcement of six seats that are to be allotted to its partners. Three seats each should be allotted to the TDP and TJS. Both the alliance partners have been pressing the Congress to announce the remaining seats, so that they could select the candidates.
So far the Congress has announced the names of 75 candidates in two phases. The party has proposed to contest in another 18 segments and selection of candidates is being made in Delhi.
TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, party in-charge for the State R C Khuntia, and AICC secretaries for Telangana, are participating in the selection process. The Congress may announce few more names on Thursday.
The Congress offered 14 seats to Telugu Desam party, eight to Telangana Jana Samithi and three to CPI. It has announced 11 constituencies to be contested by Telugu Desam party, five constituencies that have been allotted to the TJS and three to the CPI.
However, still it has to announce three seats that are earmarked to the Telugu Desam Party and three to TJS each. The TJS has warned that if the Congress did not announce the constituencies to be left, it would announce seats and candidates on its own.
The Telugu Desam Party is keen on fielding its candidates in LB Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and Warangal West. The Congress is not inclined to give LB Nagar and Rajendra Nagar and held back the announcement. The TDP wants to contest from LB Nagar and Rajendranagar as Seamandhra voters are concentrated heavily in those constituencies. The cycle party feels that victory of its candidate in them would be a cakewalk.
But the Congress has strong aspirants for both the constituencies, D Sudhir Reddy for LB Nagar and P Karthik Reddy for Rajendranagar. Both the leaders have done a hard work in the past four years in their respective constituencies and they are bringing pressure on the AICC not to allot those tickets to the Telugu Desam party. Karthik Reddy filed his papers from Rajendranagar on Wednesday.
The TJS is seeking clarity on Miryalaguda, Jangaon and Wardhannapet. The party has warned the Congress that if it fails to announce the seats by evening of Wednesday, it would announce the candidates and file the nominations.
The Congress is struggling with more than two strong aspirants in several constituencies and making laborious exercise to select the candidate. The party is facing problems in Ibrahimpatnam, Nizamabad Rural, Balkonda and others.
It has been taking its own time in deciding the candidate for these constituencies. The members of the selection committee have been trying to pacify the rebels before announcing the candidates.
