Nama Nageswara Rao to face TRS nominee in Khammam

Khammam: As predicted by the Hans India, much before the formation of the Mahakutami, that TDP leader Nama Nageswara Rao would be fielded against the TRS candidate from Khammam, the grand alliance on Wednesday formally announced his candidature from the city. 

The TDP, which also played a key role in formation of Mahakutami, announced its list of candidates which included two nominees from the district-- the sitting MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah for Sattupalli Assembly segment and former MP Nama Nageswara Rao for Khammam seat.

Many aspirants from Congress party tried a lot to get Khammam Assembly ticket. But after keeping all waiting, Mahakutami allotted the coveted seat to the TDP and the party announced Nama Nageswara candidature from here.

It is to be noted that many leaders from Congress and TDP  had taken initiatives and started discussion much earlier before to the formation of grand alliance to field Nama Nageswara Rao as joint candidate to face the TRS in ensuing Assembly elections which was proved reality with the announcement of Nama’s name for Khammam segment.

Nama Nageswara Rao contested the Assembly elections in 2004 from the Khammam constituency on TDP ticket, but lost to the incumbent Renuka Chowdary of Congress party.

In 2009, Nama was elected to the Lok Sabha to represent the Khammam, with a majority of 1,24,949 vots defeating then Union Minister Renuka Chowdary but lost to Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy in 2014 elections. The TDP and Congress party leaders had given a grand welcome to the Nama Nageswara Rao who arrived in Khammam after announcing his name from Mahakutami on Wednesday and took out a massive rally in the city.
