DEO opens model polling station at GHMC office
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner and DEO M Dana Kishore on Thursday inaugurated the model polling station at GHMC head office. The idea of the model polling station is to demonstrate the entire exercise of voting to the citizens and help them clear doubts if any in the process.
The model station is equipped with all the materials including the VVPATs and EVMs. Citizens visit GHMC offices regularly for their civic needs etc., the aim is to help them have a look of the model polling station to have clear knowledge of voting process, said the DEO.
The GHMC is involving more than 30 NGOs and street play artists in the Hyderabad district jurisdiction to increase the poll percentage covering 15 Assembly Constituencies. While interacting with the media after the inauguration of model polling station, the Commissioner said that the last election polling percentage was only 53 per cent, this time around the GHMC is planning to coordinate with various NGOs, RWAs, students, youth, SHG etc., to increase the poll percentage with clear transparency. A meeting to this effect has been organised on November 20 to have a proper coordination with all the groups, the Commissioner added.
The DEO stated that a meeting had been conducted with the Supervisory Officers to inspect all the 3,856 plus polling stations to have a clear picture of providing basic minimum facilities. A meeting and training programme are being conducted on November 17, 18, and 19 with BLOs for clear understanding to perform their duties in a more appropriate manner.
Around 23,000 polling persons have been drafted for the election purpose. All together 40,000 officials are working on election related works. The DEO said every official drafted for election must work with moral responsibility failing which action will be initiated as per the RP Act, with the help of C-vigil App 95 cases have been resolved, said the DEO.
