Stung by denial of ticket, Sabitha’s son quits Congress

Update: 2018-11-16 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress received a rude shock on Thursday. Former minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy's son P Karthik Reddy tendered resignation to party and campaign committee membership upset with denial of Rajendranagar assembly segment that went to TTDP as part of alliance. TTDP announced candidature of Ganesh Gupta for Rajendranagar seat on Wednesday midnight following which Karthik Reddy took this decision.

Karthik Reddy made sensational allegations against TTDP president L Ramana while on his way out. He alleged that Ramana sold party tickets in the name of Mahakutami.

He added that ZPTCs, MPPs and division presidents of Congress in Rajendranagar are also quitting the party.
Karthik Reddy said that Congress was strong in Rajendrangar segment and present political situation was also in favour of the national party. The fresh development has angered Congress functionaries in the constituency forcing them to resign and leave the decision to TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy.

He said that TRS contestant Prakash Goud was claiming from last one month that Karthik Reddy would not get ticket, but he said he did not believe the TRS leader which eventually came true. Karthik Reddy said that TRS cadre burst firecrackers after TTDP announced its candidate from Rajendranagar.

Karthik already filed nomination papers on Wednesday. It may be noted that son of Sabitha Indra Reddy contested from Chevella Lok Sabha in 2014 elections but was defeated by Konda Vishweshwar Reddy of TRS.

However, from the last few years Karthik Reddy was focusing all his energies on Rajendranagar assembly by extensively touring different areas to develop contacts with locals and different sections. There were question marks whether Congress would approve two seats formula for same family as his mother and former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy was in the fray from Maheshwaram assembly constituency.

However, after Congress first two lists when tickets were given to Uttam Kumar Reddy and Padmavathi Reddy (husband and wife), Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy (brothers), Mallu Ravi and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (brothers), Sabitha Indra Reddy and her son's followers expected tickets to both mother and son. However, TTDP sought this segment and Congress finally conceded its demand.
