Azharuddin has been with the Congress party and was an MP from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh in 2009. He lost the last elections from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. However, the Congress leader was seen at Congress meetings in Gandhi Bhavan in recent times. Azharuddin had also expressed his willingness to contest from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

However, former MP from Secunderabad M Anjan Kumar Yadav voiced his disapproval and suggested Azhar to contest for Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat and assured to support him. AICC minority department national coordinator, who joined TRS on Friday Khaleequr Rehman, said that the leaders were feeling neglected by the Congress party.

“I want the TRS to strengthen because of its works and everyone, including Azharuddin would also appreciate good works of the government. I would invite Azharuddin to join TRS. We will try to bring him into TRS. This is a teaser, the full-length movie is yet to come,” said Khaleequr Rehman. Former Minorities Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan said that the Congress party was following the agenda of RSS. He said that there was no recognition for Muslims in Congress party and hence they have decided to join TRS after serving 32 years in the grand-old party.
