Hyderabad: More than 100 students who graduated from Haramain Sharifain Arabic English Islamic Model University were awarded certificates in the presence of eminent scholars, including ones from Yemen and Oman. The students who memorised the Hadees (sayings of Prophet Mohammed), which are considered to be important scriptures, next to only Holy Quran, were also felicitated. Eminent scholars from Oman and Yemen – Professor Sayeed Bin Suleman Bin Ali Al Isai, Nasir Bin Ali Jabir Yameni, Abu Hammad – graced the occasion held at the university campus in Tarnaka as guests.

The guest speakers expressed their happiness over the activities, and the skills of students in Arabic, English and Urdu languages. They said Arabic language acted as a catalyst to strengthen relations between India and Arab countries in the medieval to modern times. They lauded the efforts of Jamia Haramain Sharifain in inculcating knowledge relevant to different linguistics. The university is the first of its kind where students can memorise Hadees within a span of 11 months and also  become proficient in three languages: English, Urdu and Arabic. “Arabic is an international language and lingua franca among Muslims, as it’s the fifth most spoken language of the world with nearly 422 million people of different Arab countries and Arab Diasporas across the world using the language. Many Indians too have good command over the language”, said founder Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammed Jahangir.

Jahangir said that the alumni of the university are also doing wonders around the world as polyglots. Their command in English and Arabic make them more efficient at work. They not only serve the cause of Islam, but also serve the entire humanity. In a first, the university is preparing to introduce tailor-made courses to teach Sanskrit, in addition to Hindi and Persian, from the upcoming academic year. By far, it is the first Islamic institution to offer a course in Sanskrit.  The university will introduce an 11-month course in Tasawwuf (Islamic Mysticism). Jahangir, who has written 9 books to teach Arabic from English, said that the university has gained popularity around the world for its unique curriculum. The scholars from the highly revered Al Azhar university of Cairo also acknowledged the importance of courses offered by Haramain University, Jahangir added.
