Gachibowli:  To stop illegal encroachment in the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials along with Cyberabad Traffic Police have taken up a drive for removal of encroachments on footpaths and roads. The drive is proposed as many accidents are occurring regularly these days on the stretch of road between Gachibowli Junction and IIIT Junction. The stretch also witnesses regular traffic congestions due to these encroachments.

About 10 commercial structures along Indira Nagar main road and Gachibowli Junction were removed and Rs 5,500 was collected as penalty from erring people. It was also noticed that many commercial building owners in Indra Nagar had illegally rented out the open space in front of their buildings along the road to street vendors who had constructed illegally structures on the footpath and road. A large number of complaints are being reported from the local citizens, commuters to traffic police regularly.

Hence, to ease traffic situation and ensure safety of pedestrians, encroachment removal drive was taken up on Saturday and all illegal structures have been removed. Regular inspections will be done to maintain the area free from any illegal occupations. Criminal cases will be booked against the commercial building owners from now on if they try to illegally rent out government space meant for foot path or road widening. Street vendors are advised not to conduct their business on roads and footpaths obstructing traffic or pedestrians.
