Community hall a picture of neglect
Serilingampally: The community hall in Chandanagar that opened in the year 1992 was once the most sought after but today it is a pale shadow of its former self. Thanks to the lack of maintenance, it is now in a dilapidated state. T Manish Reddy, the former Sarpanch of Serilingampally village, says the function hall’s floor is damaged; there is no proper electricity and no water supply. GHMC now allots the hall for cracker shops stores tools, tyres and other items. The function hall is now turning into a garage. Now no one is willing to take the hall for marriage as it is in bad condition. GHMC responsibility is to maintain it as it is run by them and complaints have been given but no action has taken.
Chunks from the roof keep falling off and the entire hall is filled with water when it rains. The hall lacks basic infrastructure like lights, fans, windows and even doors. The place is full of shrubs, garbage and waste. The washrooms are filled with mud and the waste iron chairs are seen piled up with no maintenance for years. The hall , not so long ago was looked upon by the middle-class to perform marriages and celebrate other festivals. Several representations have been made earlier, but there has been no response from the authorities,” said a staff member on condition of anonymity. GHMC officials from the West Zone said that they had received many complaints from the residents and as the hall building was totally dilapidated, there were planning to dismantle it and reconstructing a new hall soon.
