Sikhs swell at 2nd Nagar Keertan
Secunderabad: On the occasion of 549th Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations, Sikh devotees took out colourful Nagar Keertan (Holy Procession) from Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad and passed through Natraj talkies, Clock Tower, BATA, RP Road, Monda Market, Palika Bazar, Alpha Hotel and reached Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad in the evening on Wednesday. Earlier, the first Nagar Keertan was held on November 19 at Gurudwara, Afzal Gunj.
Sikh devotees showcased their skills by performing a Sikh martial art ‘Gatka’, during the procession. Nagar Keertan was marked with carrying of Guru Granth Sahibji, a revered scripture of Sikhs, on a beautifully decorated vehicle, followed by Nishaan Sahebans, religious flag bearers performing Gatka martial art form. Sardar Gurcharan Singh, president of Telangana State Gurudwaras said that they will mark the Guru Nanak Jayanthi celebrations by conducting two Nagar Keertan events every year. The spectators were stunned by the recitations of Gurbani Keertans (Holy Hymns) by the Ragi Jathas (religious preachers), who are being specially invited from various parts of the country to render Shabad Keertans.
