BJP tells voters to be chary of TRS, Kutami designs

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and party national spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao cautioned Telangana people against voting for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the grand alliance led by the Congress. “Doing so will plunge the future of the State into a sea of corruption,” he added.

Addressing the media here on Monday, the BJP MP said that the sole objective of the grand alliance and the TRS is only to weaken the BJP as they had done in Karnataka. Because this will help them to continue with their dynasty politics and corrupt governance. He appealed to Telangana people to see the real faces of the TRS and the grand alliance before voting for them, as corruption is the only thread connecting all of them to grab power.

Taking a dig at the Congress and the TDP, he said both are trying again to cheat people of Andhra Pradesh in the name of granting special status. Rao said a committee headed by former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan constituted by the then UPA government under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 had recommended doing away with granting special status to the States.

This had remained the policy guideline for the UPA. Because of which, people of AP were cheated by not including the special status in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill (APRB), in 2014, he pointed out. “Had they (Congress) included special status in the APRB, it could have facilitated the NDA government which had come to power after UPA to extend the same to AP,” he said. Considering these issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre had decided to help the AP by extending all the special status benefits in the form of a special package, he said.

Demanding an apology from the Congress for cheating people of AP in the name of special status, Rao said, “Congress president Rahul Gandhi and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu are once again trying to mislead people of AP in the name of special status.” He also asked the Congress president to spell out as to what kind of special status that the Congress wanted to grant AP and how his party will do it? Responding to a question, Narasimha Rao warned the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leaders against making arrogant statements.
