Creation of jobs will be my top priority

The dusty by-lanes of Dr A S Rao Nagar get even as scores of cars make their way and a sea of yellow pervades the ‘Round Building,’ as it is called due to its architecture. You have men, women, aged as well as the young making a beeline to meet the young Veerender Goud, the aspirant for Uppal Assembly constituency. Sporting a salt and pepper beard, he moves with alacrity that reminds one of his illustrious father Tulla Devender Goud. 

He spoke to The Hans India on his strategy to win the elections. Excerpts:

On his chances

Neither the opponent nor his party is strong. I stand a good chance as people are fed up and have lost confidence in them. Also, the belief that money and liquor can win you an election is a myth. We will eliminate this factor in this election and test it this time. People want good administration and are raring to see change. 

Three promises

The priority is on generation of employment, safety for women and rejuvenation of lakes. The youth are disgruntled as they do not see any party working towards these and that would be my first priority. Another area of concern is safety for women. We would have an exclusive women-operated police station. We would also ensure that there are CCTVs in every nook and corner of the constituency. Thirdly, the state of the water bodies in the area is abysmal. We will work for their rejuvenation.
 
On being Devender Goud’s son

There is a lot of expectations and I am sure I would be able to live up to them. People have seen my father work for the upliftment of the poor and expect the same. I have an advantage as my father has a good image, coupled with this, I am representing TDP. Both the names, that of my father as well as Chandrababu Naidu is going to help me in a great way. 

Voters’ Response 

The response from the people has been good. People want change and want a fresh face. A new candidate brings in change and I believe I can fill this gap. I want to make Uppal an IT hub. It has tremendous potential. The BJP has no presence and people have lost faith in TRS. The youth are emotional as well as a patriotic lot. They will vote for change and I am going to bring it. 

Connecting to youth 

The Uppal electorate is 4,03,143 and 60% comprises the age group of 18-35. I do connect with the youth and they identify with me. I understand their problems and what they are going through. Not so long ago, even I was a student and had the same feelings. Jobs is a big issue with them and that is my top priority.
