Nalgonda: Congress star campaigner and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin said that when poor people are dying with hunger and poverty is rampant across the nation, it is not Justifiable to spend Rs 3,500 crore on construction of Sardar Patel statue in the name of a world record.

On Tuesday, he participated in an election campaign in Nalgonda in favour of Congress candidate Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and urged the people, particularly the Muslims to support the secular Congress party in the elections and bless Komatireddy for the fifth time in the interest of inclusive development of the constituency in all aspects.

On this occasion, speaking to The Hans India, the former Indian cricket team captain said that demonetisation and visionless retrogressive reforms by the BJP government at the Centre pushed the nation 20 years back.

Modi’s anti-people policies ruined the financial health of the country and all systems in a short span of four and half years. Congress not only played key role during the Freedom Struggle and provided stable government for over 70 years with people’s aspirations as its agenda. India achieved several milestones and progress during the Congress regime at the State and the Centre.

The former MP explained that the life span of small parties and family-centric regional parties varies from 5 to 10 years and urged people to support  national parties like  the Congress which is known for upholding secular & democratic values and pays utmost attention to the development of  down trodden sections of society.

He fired salvos at the TRS government and KCR over betraying the people of the State with false promises. He opined that the minorities’ lives do not change by distributing clothes on Ramzan, providing meager amounts in the name of Shaadi Mubarak and sanctioning amounts for repair of masjids and Eidgahs etc.

Only concrete steps with practical approach can change the lives of Muslims, he opined. Stating that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s assurance of 12 per cent reservation to Muslims is only  a  ploy to woo the minorities, he added that the Congress provided 4 per cent reservation to Muslims which changed lives of many students and youth of the community considerably.

However, he refused to comment on MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi’s statement that no party can form government without the support of MIM and stated that Congress is always a trend setter and other parties simply follow the footsteps of century-old people oriented Congress party.

He urged people not to sell their vote for money and use it judiciously to form a fair government. He urged people of Telangana to support Congress, which carved Telangana and exuded confidence that the Congress-led People’s Front is going to form government on December 12.
