Security beefed up for smooth polls

Hyderabad: Security in the city has been beefed up in the eve of the upcoming elections. Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissinorate have set up several checkpoints on the boundaries of the city. Under this search operation, all the vehicles entering the city are being checked. Special check points are set up on the busy roads of Shamshabad, Rajendra Nagar, Kattedan, Abids, Nampally, Hi-tech city, Kondapur and Secunderabad etc.
Many have been caught for carrying cash and liquor in the recent frisking. Nonetheless, some denizens are angry and express their inconvenience over frisking. As part of the search, cars, motorcycle, trucks and goods carriers are also being checked.
People returning from offices, hospitals and other errands are facing inconvenienced because of the check points. “Many are asked to remove their helmets and asked to show their identity proofs,” said Ram, a commuter.
Many businessmen coming from other districts for textiles from Patel and Madina markets are being stopped near City College and Nayapul by the police for checking.
In one case, a cab driver was also stopped at Secunderabad checkpoint, and was asked to show vehicle documents. Cops inspected his car, and he was asked by them to pay off the challans and take his car from them.
The passenger customer left the cab in a huff without paying the cab driver.
Puranapul, Petla Burj, Muslim Jung flyovers are the only entering routes to get into the new city.
People coming from districts carry a huge amount of cash with an intention to purchase goods and other steel products from Begum Bazar, which is a big wholesale market in the city. Cash from some of the travelers was also seized by the cops, according to sources. They were taken to police stations, and were asked for reasons for carrying huge cash.
Madhapur Deputy Commissioner of Police A Venkateshwar Rao told The Hans India that the security has been tightened around the city and that they have already been working round-the-clock in every zone. Till now, over Rs 80 lakh has been seized, he said.
Hyderabad City Police has recently seized Rs 19.50 crore at various checkpoints in the city. Central Armed Force (CAF) has also been deployed in the southern parts of the city, and it was instructed to maintain the law and order in the areas during the elections.
