Khammam: Rich tributes were paid to social reformer Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phule on his 128th death anniversary in the city. SC, ST, BCs and Minorities-JAC convenor Mekala Suguna Rao  along with other leaders paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phule and his wife Savithri Bai Phule at Phule Chowk in Khammam.

Speaking on the occasion, M Suguna Rao said that Phule was social revolutionist and strived hard for the welfare of downtrodden and their betterment. It is sad to know that even after 72 years of Independence, no party made efforts for bringing out social reforms in the country. Still in many parts of the country, Dalith and minorities are attacked by upper caste people and there is a lot of discrimination against the BC people.

Identifying that the education is the main weapon which can be used to drive away the poverty and backwardness, Phule motivated her wife and provided her education and stood  as a role model for others, he said.

All the people belonging to SC, ST, BC and minorities must fight united to achieve political power by striving hard for fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phule, he appealed.

The representatives of the association P Vijay Kumar, G Veerabhadram, Ch Venkanna, K Appa Rao, Mandula Venkanna, Gaddaiah and P Venkataramana among others were present on the occasion.
