Shias celebrate Milad-un-Nabi

Charminar: Shia Muslims celebrated Eid-e- Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth anniversary of Holy Prophet Islam Muhammad revered as the messenger of God by Muslims. While the Sunnis celebrated on the 12thRabi-ul-Awal, the Shias observe it on the 17th Rabi-ul-Awal (Islamic Calender).   

It was celebrated in the parts of Old city by the Shia devout recalling his teachings and contribution to the humanity at large. According to Shia Muslims his birthday falls on 17th Rabi-ul-awal the third month of the Muslim lunar calendar. Processions were taken out from various parts of old city as well from suburbs like Rajendranagar. All the processions culminated at Ashoor Khana  khadam-e- Rasool at Gulzar Houz. ACP Mirchowk B Anand offered ‘sehra’ to sehra-e-Mubarak at Baitul Qayum Purani Haveli road. While BJP spokesperson Mir Firasath Ali Baqri, offered sehra at Ali Villa in Purani Haveli.

Series of religious and cultural programmes were organised during the past one week in different parts of Old City by both Sunni and Shia Muslims. Different organisations organised ‘Natiya Mushaira’ and poets from different parts of the country were invited to take part in the programme.  While in the parts of Old city streets were enlightened with colourful lights and decorations on the occasion of Milan-un-Nabi, which is celebrated by Sunni Muslims on the 12th day of Rabi Ul awal, while Shia Muslims celebrate it on 17th Rabi Ul awal (Islamic Calender). 

The devout feel that Milad-un-Nabi the birthday of Prophet Mohammed dawns, the change in the atmosphere can’t be missed. Green flags were seen everywhere and planted at every junction and loud speakers played nath all day. Different kinds of processions were taken out in different parts of City. This is also the time when sales of flags, LED serial bulbs and other illumination material increased.
