Don’t cross the Lakshman Rekha
The high-octane campaign of Telangana, by the key players, TRS, Mahakutami and BJP, has one thing in common, that is “Atma Stuthi and Paraninda”. (KCR calls Rahul Modi a liar, The Hans India, 1 Dec). Sad thing is it has crossed all the decency levels and at times, it touched the lowest point ever. The Prime minister is called a liar, chief minister is called a “Commission-er” and the opposition leader is branded as joker, which is ridiculous. In their eagerness to impress the voter, the garrulous leaders, are at their abusive best to show the opponent in poor light, forgetting the Newton’s third law, which is in full swing.
However, one positive and refreshing feature of this election campaign in Telangana, is that, all the political parties including BJP, have chosen not to play the religion card, as it is done in the three states of Hindi heartland. Against this background of intense political rivalry and personal criticism, the voter of Telangana, humbly demands that the political parties should show some responsibility and indulge in healthy debates and decent campaigns, without crossing the Lakshman Rekha.
