5.8 cr hawala money seized
Jangaon: The police on Tuesday arrested three persons on the charge of carrying hawala money and recovered Rs 5.80 crore from them. The police, who were conducting vehicle checks at a check-post near Pembarthy village, recovered the cash clandestinely concealed in a car (AP36CK 4985) coming from Hyderabad.
After interrogation, the police had found that the cash is being ferried in a car allegedly to be handed over to three Congress-led People’ Front’s candidates contesting for Assembly. - Vaddiraj Ravichandra (Warangal East), Konda Murali, husband of Surekha (Parkal) and Nama Nageswara Rao (Khammam).
The police found that the cash is being transported for a hawala operator Keerthi Kumar Jain of Gosha Mahal in Hyderabad. According to the Warangal Commissioner of Police V Ravinder, the accused were allegedly on their way to hand over a cash of Rs 2 crore to Ravichandra, Rs 2.3 crore to Konda Murali and Rs 1.50 crore to Nama Nageswara Rao. The three accused including car driver were taken into the custody by the Jangaon police.
It may be noted here that to curtail the influence of money in Telangana, which is going to polling on December 7, the Warangal Police Commissionerate had set up more than 100 check-posts in its command area.
