Death anniversary of Ambedkar observed

Khammam: Various people’s organisations across the district observed the 63rd death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on Thursday. People from different walks of life paid floral tributes to the Dalit leader by garlanding his statue near ZP Centre. They remembered the life and work of Ambedkar and how he strove for the uplift of poor and downtrodden.

After paying tribute to Ambedkar, district president of the Telangana Mala Mahanadu(TMM) Kandula Upendar said, “Ambedkar is India’s most revered leader after Mahatma Gandhi. He was the architect of what is probably, the World’s longest constitution, a legal scholar and a spiritual leader. Most importantly, he was the undisputed leader of the Dalits, who suffered from their lowly position in a harsh caste hierarchy.”

Ambedkar contributions to the nation are eternal and invaluable. Everyone must remember his efforts to eradicate social evils and the importance he gave to education, he added.

The district general secretary of Kula Vivaksha Vyethireka Porata Samiti (KVPS) Nandipati Manohar said Dr. Ambedkar was discriminated by the then caste-ridden society but he pursued his higher studies in London and drafted a great constitution for the Independent India.

Ambedkar strived hard to secure reservations to poor and socially backward communities in the country. “We should take forward his ideals and stand as an example for others in society,” he added.

He called upon people to make use of constitutional provision provided by Ambedkar and utilize the voting right without fail to build a better society. The representatives of the TMM, the SC, ST, BC and Muslim Minorities Joint Action Committee and KVPS were among those who paid tributes to Ambedkar.
