TRS decimated in Khammam

Update: 2018-12-12 05:30 IST

Khammam: While the TRS wave swept across the State and the party won maximum seats defeating the Congress-led Prajakutami with big margin, it failed utterly in erstwhile Khammam district as it could win only seat out of 10.

The district which is very close to Vijaywada of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh State is the political nerve centre of south Telangana. The voters in the district were well aware of politics and their geographical identity.

The district was one of the strong hold of Left parties in the past. Congress party too had its representation in the elections that held in the recent past. But the TRS party which tried its best in the previous elections was able to win just one Assembly seat in the united Khammam district from Kothagudem in 2014 elections.

The TRS party after dissolving the Assembly announced its candidates for all the five constituencies much before compared to other parties and started the election campaign in the erstwhile Khammam district. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also visited the district two times and participated in the campaigning. But the party was unable to gain any momentum in the district. It had won just one assembly seat from Khammam.

But with the results declared on Tuesday, the TRS Party received a massive blow with the defeat of Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao who contested from Paler. He was defeated by the Congress party candidate Kandala Upendar Reddy.

On the other hand, the MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy who took the responsibility of three TRS party candidates of Madhira, Sattupalli and Wyra Assembly segments conducted vigorous campaigning in the respective constituencies. But they were also been defeated by their rivals in the respective constituencies.

The TRS is able to retain only one assembly seat of Khammam from Puvvada Ajay Kumar has won defeating TDP candidate Nama Nageswara Rao. The TPCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka retained his seat by defeating TRS candidate Linagala Kamal Raj. The TDP lone sitting warrior from Telangana Sandra Venkata Veeraiah too retained his seat by winning third consecutive time.

Sandra defeated TRS party candidate Pidamarthy Ravi and proved his strong hold over the constituency. Whereas in Wyra, surprisingly, the independent candidate Ramulu Naik defeated the sitting MLA Banothu Madan Lal of TRS party. In Kothagudem district also all the five seats went to the Prajakutami. Congress won four and one went to TDP.
