LB Nagar: The Nagole Lake’s deplorable condition has been worrying both the people residing in surrounding colonies and the environmentalists. The lake, once said to be a main source for irrigating farm land and serving the drinking water needs of the people, has been covered with water plant hyacinth.

Apart from this, the growth in illegal constructions on the lake bed has shrunk the lake considerably. Though officials from Revenue Department conducted surveys and submitted reports on the encroachment, but no action has been initiated, the locals lamented. They alleged that public money of lakhs of rupees were spent to remove the hyacinth which had not yielded any results. They also said that the residents of the surrounding colonies had become victims of mosquito menace and various health problems due to the hyacinth, pollutants filled in the lake.

The local people also alleged that the officials and public representatives were making tall claims on beautification of the lake and construction of walking track were least bothered about the clearing of hyacinth and de-silting of the lake.
