Tattoo, body piercing catching up in city

Hyderabad: The youth in the city are taking to tattooing like never before. According to researchers, almost four of every 10 people born after 1980 have at least one tattoo. A tattoo is a body art, created when ink is inserted using a needle into the dermis layer of the skin. It changes the skin’s pigment and can be used to create almost any image. Arvind, an engineering student, said, “It is not just a style statement but reflects my personality.” 

According to PEW study way back in 2010, the estimate was 120 studios and 25 professionals in the city. The number must have grown quite a bit, says Johnson, who follows tattooing trends. In spite of the fear of leading to Syphilis, hepatitis and other skin diseases or HIV/AIDS, youth seem to be attracted. Dermatologist Dr Ghulam Abbas suggestsa temporary tattoo. These temporary tattoos can be made through water and can be erased easily with the help of cream. It will disappear within a week.  A temporary tattoo and could be replaced and can apply other tattoo easily, it’s an alternative for permanent tattoo.   

Expensive hobby

A normal tattoo design price starts from 1000 to Rs 1 lakh or more. Tattoo price depends upon the detailing. There have been cases of people spending Rs 50,000, says a staff member of Bosco Tattoo & Piercing studio.  It also takes 4 to 5 to design a detailed tattoo. One needs to follow tattoo aftercare instructions and have to take special care at least for three days said, Bosco Madhu, a tattoo artist. Now-a-days, tattoo and body piercing is a growing fashion among all age groups. 

Earlier only youngsters use to prefer tattoos but now all age group people are making tattoos. Previously people use to design a tattoo on hand but now they also prefer it on any open part of their body. In festivals people visits studios to have Ganesha, Shiva, Jesus Christ tattoos. Usually women prefers lips, belly button piercing. Couple tattoos, devotional and memorable, many more are the types of tattoos. A tattoo can be erased but it takes a lot of pain and is expensive.
