TRS MPs meet EC, seek delisting of election symbols akin to car
New Delhi: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs, A P Jitender Reddy and B Vinod Kumar along with the State government's Special Representative, Venugopala Chari, met the Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora, here on Wednesday and sought delisting of election symbols like, auto, truck, camera, iron box and hat from the Telangana State Election Commission symbols list as they look similar to the TRS symbol - car.
Pointing out to him that these symbols given to independent candidates were dipping into the rural votes mostly, where people could not differentiate between their symbol car and other similar symbols. They told him that the party had lodged its request with the State Election Commission too in the past but as the electoral process had begun, there was no action in this regard.
They further added that at least 15 of TRS candidates lost 1,000 to 1,500 votes in the recently held by-elections due to confusion. In view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, the Commission should act without fail in this issue, they said. In addition, the colour of the car symbol of the TRS party should be brighter for easy identification, they added.
