She Teams strike at brothel houses

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Commissionerate along with the She Teams in the year 2018 took strong measures to curb eve-teasing, child marriages and rescue women and children from trafficking rackets. In a joint operation, the She Teams and Yadagirigutta Police conducted raids on brothel houses, their organisers and rescued 34 minor girls and 12 women in the third quarter of this year. The rescued were shifted to Prajwala Rescue Home and Shishu Sruha. Preventive Detention (PD) Act was also invoked against 29 traffickers, while 20 brothels were sealed at Yadagirigutta by taking orders from RDO Bhongir.

Rachakonda Commissioner M Mahesh Bhagwat said that as many as 68 cases have been registered against the organisers who were running human trafficking network. A total of 94 organisers were arrested and produced before the Court, 107 victims rescued from Telangana, AP, Jharkhand, UP, Delhi, Haryana and about Rs 2 lakh were seized from them. Total 27 brothels were sealed in the limits of Rachakonda Commissionerate. He further added that apart from action against brother houses, the Commissionerate was busy containing child marriages in the area. Now, She teams are working towards stopping child marriages in the limits of Rachakonda, apart from their regular duties of prevention of eve teasing, he said.

The voluntary organisation Child Rights Protection Force (CRPF) and volunteers are working in each village and collecting prior information about child marriages. The She Teams are also collecting information in addition to above volunteers and taking necessary steps to prevent child marriages. So far, 46 child marriage instances were stopped. Further, parents of both bride and bride groom were counselled. One child marriage rescue victim has also represented Telangana State for interstate cricket tournament and was also felicitated by CP Rachakonda for her extraordinary achievements.

Rachakonda She Teams made strong efforts in child safety and found sex determination centres by conducting decoys at Diagnostic centres and Hospitals and registered three PCPNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994) cases and arrested five qualified MBBS doctors from three multi-speciality hospitals at Uppal, Medipally, and Choutuppal.
