VH criticises govt for reduction of BC quota
Hyderabad: Former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday criticised the government for reducing reservations to the Backward Classes (BCs) in the local body elections and demanded that it take fresh census of BCs to restore 34 per cent reservation.
Addressing the media, he said that the government through its Integrated Family Survey found that BCs form 52 per cent of the population of the State. The Chief Minister assured 34 per cent reservations to them. However, with the orders of Supreme Court the Chief Minister reduced the reservations.
He said that the Chief Minister used the BCs for his victory in Assembly polls and is now ignoring them. Hanumantha Rao demanded that the Congress take up an agitation for restoration of 34 per cent reservations to the BCs. He wanted the party to review the reasons that have led for the party’s defeat.
