5 hurt as school kitchen collapses

Warangal: Five women escaped with minor injuries when the tin roof shed of a school kitchen collapsed at Velair in Warangal Urban district on Thursday.

The tin roof of the shed and part of brick wall caved in when five women were engaged in the preparation of mid-day meals on the premises of Zilla Parishad Secondary School. The school teachers and students, who pulled them out of the debris, rushed them to the MGM hospital in Warangal for treatment. 

It’s learnt that this is the school in which former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao had studied. Telangana Democratic Teachers Federation mandal president M Sudarshan said that officials were non-responsive to the issues of the school. He demanded the officials concerned to construct a permanent kitchen for the school. 

Local Congress leaders demanded the government to bear the medical expenses incurred to the five women workers. They accused the government of not taking care of the school buildings which is in a dilapidated condition.
