Khammam District Congress Committee in disarray without captain

Khammam: Though the Congress and its allies won nine out of 10 seats in the erstwhile Khammam district, the District Congress Committee (DCC) is still in disarray. The TPCC has so far failed to appoint president for the DCC.

It may be recalled that the TRS has won majority of seats in almost all districts but failed to do so in Khammam district. Though the  Khammam DCC remains without captain to lead it, the people in the district reposed their faith in the party and elected its candidates.

The Telangana State Congress Committee has appointed DCC chiefs in all districts, except in Khammam district. The incumbent DCC president died in April last year. Though the TPCC tried to select a candidate to lead the party in the candidate, consensus eluded among the party leaders.

Several Congress stalwarts hail from the district. Prominent among them are TPCC working president Mallu Batti Vikdramarka, a political firebrand Renuka Chowdary, former Minister Sambani Chandrashekar and AICC former secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy.

In view of ensuring Panchayat elections, pressure is now mounted on the TPCC to pick a captain to lead the party. The party activists at the grass roots level are appealing to the TPCC to appoint a strong leader as DCC president.
