Three-day ITDA sponsored sports meet kicks off
Bhadrachalam: A three-day ITDA sponsored Games and Sports Meet-2018 began on a grand scale on Friday. District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini and Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Project Officer Pamela Sathpathy inaugurated the event at a colourful ceremony held at the Government Junior College grounds.
The Collector exhorted the participants, students studying in Ashram schools run by the ITDA to bring fame to the district by excelling at the event. Participation in sports and games would greatly contribute to all-round growth of students, he said.
ITDA Bhadrachalam has got largest area under its domain in the state. Since its formation 40 years ago, the agency has made great efforts for the uplift of tribal people, Saini noted.
He expressed pleasure over tribal students participating in national and international sports and games events. The ongoing event would serve as a platform for the sportspersons to hone their skills, he said.
The ITDA expressed the desire to see that ITDA Bhadrachalam would turn out to be an ideal training ground for sportspersons. As many as 1,888 students from Tribal Welfare Schools at Dammapet, Khammam, Kothagudem, Manuguru, Paloncha, Singareni, Yellandu and Bhadrachalam are participating in the event.
Competitions in volleyball, kabaddi, archery, kho-kho, athletics, tennikoit, chess, and caroms are scheduled to be conducted during the three-day events. Sub-Collector Bhavesh Mishra and District Sports Officer Putta Shankaraiah were present.
