Provide Kaleshwaram water by June: KCR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday directed the irrigation department officials and work agencies to complete the construction of pump houses and barrages under Kaleshwaram project by the end of March and provide water by June. 

After becoming the chief minister for the second time, Chandrashekar Rao visited projects site and asked the officials to construct coffer dam on River Godavari and start trial run in the month of April.

He asked the officials to plan and execute lifting water into Mid Manair during the coming rainy season. Farmers are waiting for water for irrigation with many hopes and the officials should take note of the aspirations of the farmers and also the need for taking up the works on a war-footing, said the chief minister, who visited project sites, including Medigadda Barrage, Kannepally Pump House and inquired about the progress of the works. He gave necessary directions to the officials while overseeing the project works.

The chief minister asked the officials to get ready to provide water in June by completing the barrages at Medigadda, Annaram, Sundilla and also the fixing of motors by April and sorting out other issues in May. In order to utilise the Godavari water as per the allocations of Telangana, the works pertaining to construction of pump house, fixing of motor should get completed in a quick time.

The chief minister inspected the flood back water on both sides of the Godavari river and asked the officials to complete the revetment of soil as per the height of the reservoir. He examined the Medigadda barrage gates and also the mechanism of operating these gates. He asked the officials to complete the raft foundation works at Medigadda barrage by the end of January and also wanted the work agency to ensure the barrage concrete works should not be less than 10,000 cubic metres per day.

KCR asked the officials to address the technical problems at Kannepally pump house forebay, head regulator. The officials were asked to fix the 11 pumps at Kannepally pump house by March end. The chief minister said that there was no shortage of funds and the works should be taken up in a speedy manner and asked them not to compromise on the completion of project in time. 

“People have made TRS victorious again with huge margin and the government would prove its commitment by completing irrigation projects,” said Chandrashekar Rao. The chief minister said that CMO secretary would be reviewing the works for every ten days. The chief minister talked to the Transco CMD D Prabhakar Rao over phone and asked him to complete the substation works soon.

Chief Secretary SK Joshi, DGP M Mahender Reddy, Government Chief Whip P Rajeshwar Reddy, MLAs V Prashanth Reddy, Diwakar Rao, TSMDC Chairman S Subhash Reddy, Government Advisor G Vivek and other officials were also present. Meanwhile, Congress MLAs also met chief minister during his visit to project site. The Congress MLAs who met the chief minister at Medigadda include D Sridhar Babu, Seetakka, Gandra Venkataramana Reddy.
