FOOD POISONING: 67 KGBV girl students fall ill

Hyderabad: As many as 67 school girls of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Chevella suffered food poisoning after consuming fruit salad served at their hostel on Saturday.    According to police, the girls took fruit salad before their dinner and started vomiting with severe stomach ache. 

The hostel staff immediately shifted them to the local government hospital where doctors said that their condition is out of danger. When 67 girls started vomiting rest of the inmates avoided consuming the fruit salad. There are 191 girl students in KGBV at Chevella mandal in Vikarabad district.

After giving the treatment, 37 students were discharged and the rest of them are getting treatment at Niloufer Hospital. Police after filing a case questioned the hostel staff.   

They are looking into various angles of the incident whether they had used expired food items, fruits used were rotten or any poisonous creature had fallen into the food items while preparing the food. District Health and Education officials also started enquiry after collecting the food samples.  When the parents of the girls came to know about the incident they rushed to the hospital and protested. The child right activists blamed the hostel warden and staff for the incident and demanded their suspension.
