Unruly Sarvey suspended from Congress
Hyderabad: The internal bickerings in the Congress came to the fore once again on Sunday at the constituency review meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan leading to the suspension of former MP Sarvey Satyanrayana. Satyanarayana and PCC general secretary Bollu Kishan came to blows in the meeting in the presence of PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and AICC in-charge of state party affairs RC Khuntia.
The Congress has been reviewing the party candidate’s performance in Assembly elections of 2018 for the past three days. On Sunday it took up review of Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Malkajgiri constituencies. Satyanarayana had contested from Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency and lost in the general election held in December, 2018.
The trouble began when Satyanarayana made adverse comments on PCC president and Kunthia. He alleged that they were responsible for the defeat of the party in the recent Assembly elections and instead of taking moral responsibility they have been continuing in their posts. He also reportedly alleged that rowdy elements and brokers were ruling roost in the party. PCC general secretary Bollu Kishan intervened at this point and objected to the remarks made by Satyanarayana.
According to party leaders Satyanarayana lost his cool hurled a water bottle at Kishan. Both exchanged strong words against each other. During the scuffle shirt of Kishan was torn. The PCC Disciplinary Committee chairman M Kodanda Reddy took the incident seriously and suspended Satyanarayana from the party activities after speaking to the leaders of the All India Congress Committee. PCC leaders expressed surprise at the behaviour of Satyanarayana and said that he was given several party posts in the past.
Speaking to the media after the incident Satyanarayana said that he was attacked when he was speaking on the reasons for the defeat. He alleged that the PCC president and the AICC in-charge have groomed a rowdy team in the Gandhi Bhavan. He said that those who did not like his criticism encouraged PCC general secretary to attack him.
Satyanarayana questioned as to how those who were behind his defeat could review the performance. He said he would demand action against Kunthia and Uttam Kumar Reddy. However, Kishan said that he had objected to the unparliamentary language used by Satyanarayana against the PCC chief and the AICC in-charge.
