Country’s future rests on healthy children

Hyderabad: Retired Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital and consultant paediatrician, Dr Vikramjith Singh Wasu called upon the parents and guardians of the children to take special care of their health. He spoke at length about the factors which could affect the health of kids ranging from ailments to lifestyle to food habits at the 279th monthly health lecture organised by the Public Garden Walkers Association at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium in Public Garden. The monthly lecture was presided over by Senior Advocate Ghulam Yazdani, chairman of the Association. The welcome address for the monthly health lecture was rendered by Vishwanath Agarwal, general secretary. Shakeel Hyder Khan and Jaiprakash Singh were present on the occasion. In the name of latter’s parents the memorial lecture was organised.

Dr Vikramjith who spoke elaborately on the ‘basic health issues of childhood’ quoted the famous saying ‘child is the father of man’ and said that future of the child can be assessed with the habits and mindset and their future can be gauged with the current situation. Will he or she would turn out to be adult with good character, with good health and contribute to the society can be measured. He felt that good genes are directly responsible for producing healthy child who will in turn develop into a good citizen. “Environment and lifestyle also affects the health of the child,” he said.

Dr Vikramjith called upon the parents, guardians as well as the informed neighbours to focus on the growth of a child with responsibility. He also shed light on the breast feeding and encouraged mothers to ensure their children are fed with mother’s milk to ensure they receive all the nutrition at tender age. During his lecture, he also focused on the negative effects of television and latest gadgets on children. He blamed the parents who watch television till late night, thereby impacting the habits of the children. “This is affecting the health of the children and their habits. Parents should ensure that children have a good sleep of 7 to 9 hours,” he noted. On the food habits, he asked the parents to not only avoid junk food, but serve freshly cooked food to avoid any health issues. “Future rests with the new generation and their healthy children can contribute immensely to the future of the country,” he added.
