Cyberabad Smile team rescues 18 children
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Smile team rescued 18 children from begging on New Year Day. On receiving credible information that some persons were using children for begging at Calvary temple in Hydernagar, Miyapur, the police along with District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) conducted an operation at Calvary temple on January 1 and rescued 18 children.
On enquiry, it was revealed that the children were brought there by their parents and relatives from Vikarabad and Tandur by train for begging on January 1. A case was registered at Miyapur police station against the persons. The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Ranga Reddy. The rescued children were sent to Homes, seven girls were sent to Nimboliadda Home for girls whereas eight boys were sent to Saidabad Home for boys and three children were sent to Shishu Vihar for rehabilitation.
Total 210 children were rescued by the Smile Teams so far including Begging (102), rag picking (21), child labour (78), missing children (4) and 5 cases were registered under the POCSO Act. Cyberabad police launched a special WhatsApp No 7901115474 for reporting on children related offences. Citizens are requested to report on persons using children below 14 years as child labour in hotels, restaurants, dhabas, tea stalls and etc on this number.
