Secunderabad Cantonment Board not keen to revive lake in Trimulgherry

Update: 2019-01-08 05:30 IST

Trimulgherry: As per an analysis, water falls under Class E as per the Central Pollution Control Board but the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is least bothered, say residents who live close to the Trimulgherry Lake. Venkata Ramana, a resident of Malani Enclave, says, “The SCB has been taking the people for a ride. On May 31, 2018, the CEO of SCB had confirmed taking up the matter and also regulated drawings and estimates after a detailed study, but at consequent meetings, in spite of the issue being included in the agenda, the topic never came up for discussion.”

The then Member of Parliament, Ch Malla Reddy, had written to CEO in January 2018 to include the topic of Trimulgherry Lake in the ensuing board meeting. Bhagyashree, an SCB ward member, also wrote a letter at the same time. There was a meeting after receipt of this letter but there was no discussion on Trimulgherry Lake. At the last board meeting held on January 2, too, the issue was not taken up.

No response to RTI queries

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is not replying to RTI applications. RTI activist Venkata Ramana says, “I requested information under RTI act 2005 to provide the letter which was claimed to taken up with HMWSSB, the information is denied by PIO on December 17 without quoting any section under which the information is denied. He further adds, it is not the first time. There have been several instances when the applications are returned. Residents of colonies have been writing to SCB since 2011. The first complaint was filed on September 18, 2017. The PIO simply denied the information stating as "it is requested to refer to any specific letter as it is not possible to search and retrieve without details".

The SCB is not taking any effort to divert sewage and not taking any efforts to restore the lake or beautification of lake, allege residents nearby. As a result, they are forced to live in unhealthy conditions and inhale polluted air. Next generations are badly affected because of double standards of SCB CEO, they allege. Sewage from Airlines Colony, Padmanabha Colony, Surya Avenue, Sri Mahalaxmi Colony, Malani Enclave, Chinna Kamela is entering the lake.
