Race for tickets hots up in panchayats

Parigi: Villages are in the grip of election fever following the release of GP notification, all political parties started planning to field candidates. The parties took the elections as prestigious. The candidates are busy organising meetings with their followers and leaders. TRS is exuding confidence of winning panchayat elections, whereas other political parties are facing tough time.  As many as 565 panchayats are there in the district, of which 198 are formed recently. A total of 5, 86,908 voters are there in the villages and among them 2, 87,202 are males and 2, 81,706 females. A total of 105 panchayats have been reserved for STs, 93 for SCs, 126 for BCs and 241 general. As many as 282 panchayats reserved for women and 281 for male.

Elections will be conducted in three phases: Tandur, Peddemul, Basheerabad, Yalal, Bomrasipet, Kodangal and Daulathabad mandals in first phase; Vikarabad, Darur, Marpalli, Mominpet, Bantwaram, Kotpalli, Nawabpet in second phase; and the remaining mandals in third phase. Every political party is striving hard to bag majority sarpanch seats, before Lok Sabha elections. There used to be competition between two parties for Sarpanch seat, but this time candidates affiliated to three parties are in poll fray.  Politics turned interesting as youth is keen on contesting the election. They already started campaigning through social media. Number of aspirants is high in newly formed village panchayats. According to sources, a few candidates are ready to spend lakhs of rupees to get elected unanimously. 

Panchayats with least voters

The state government has recently formed new panchayats i.e, Marepalli Thanda and Khanapur keeping people’s requirements in mind. A total of 226 voters are there in Marepalli Thanda and 263 voters in Khanapur. Marepalli has been reserved for ST candidate and Khanapur reserved for SC general.
