With no gynaecologists, Bhadrachalam hospital sees fall in number of deliveries

Kothagudem: The non-availability of gynaecologists at Bhadrachalam Area Hospital has become a cause of concern for the pregnant women in the agency villages here. It further leading to fall in number of deliveries at the hospital. The area hospital recorded only 147 deliveries in last December though the number of child deliveries in last August was 544, when adequate number of gynaecologists were available.

The hospital has been allotted five gynaecologists. Of them, three have left two months ago and two are on leave now. This has been preventing pregnant women from visiting the hospital for child delivery.

The authorities at Bhadrachalam hospital have appealed to the District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini to address the issue. Following which he has issued a job notification calling for gynaecologists on contract basis. However, the response has been lukewarm so far.

Kothagudem Area Hospital superintendent Dr G Ramesh, who recently assumed the responsibility of Superintendent in-charge of Bhadrachalam hospital, said the process of recruiting doctors was underway.

According to him, only three gynaecologists have applied for the three posts notified. “The recruitment will be completed within a week after seeking permission from the Collector to conduct the interviews,” he informed.

Following the introduction of KCR Kits, pregnant women in the agency villages preferred getting admitted to the government hospital. It may be noted that last year, a total of 4,985 child deliveries have been conducted at Bhadrachalam hospital as against the set target of 1,092.

As many as 2,569 normal and 2,416 c-section deliveries were conducted. The locals have been requesting the authorities to complete the recruitment process at the earliest.
