Telangana Jagruthi to hold global youth meet in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Over 600 delegates from across 110 nations will be deliberating on United Nations – Sustainable Development Goals during the 2-day International Youth Leadership Conference (TJIYLC 2019) being organised by the Telangana Jagruthi. The conference being held from January 19 to 20 will be held at Novotel hotel in Madhapur, said founder president of Jagruthi and TRS MP K Kavitha. The cross-cutting theme for TJIYLC 2019 is “Mahatma Gandhi’s Path to Sustainability & Innovation”. 

Kavitha met Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Saturday to invite him for the conference. She briefed him about the salient features of the conference. TJIYLC 2019 will facilitate a process that strengthens effective youth participation in planning, implementation and evaluation of various global issues, related to the process of defining the future global development framework from a Gandhian perspective. The conference will also create an inclusive platform for the youth that enables them to review the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), share ideas, experiences and innovative approaches for effectively contributing to the SDG framework and its implementation.

On January 19, the conference will be kicked off by chief huest Anna Hazare, who will address the delegates on Gandhian Path to Sustainability and India’s unique role in sustainable development. After the keynote address by the chief guest, noted journalist Shekhar Gupta will moderate a panel on the topic–“What have policymakers done for youth development in India?” 

Post luncheon, experts and delegates will head to different sessions to discuss about SDGs like improving operational efficiency, promoting worker safety and wages, managing global partnership goals, life below water and life above land. Parallel panel discussions will focus on issues impacting poverty, gender rights, government sector and private sector, quality education, good health and sanitation and responsible consumption and production.

The conference will conclude on January 20 with the keynote to be given by Kamal Singh, executive director, UN Global Compact and Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom. A panel discussion on women leadership and sustainable development is also scheduled in the morning session. Nishitha Satyam from the United Nations and UK MP Seema Malhotra and several women leaders from across the world would feature in this session.

Post-luncheon, the breakout sessions will feature 10 exhibiting companies from around India who will conduct workshop on gender sensitivity, environment, evidence-based policy intervention, SDG interlinkage, policy making, development communication. 

This year’s workshop partners include Outline India, Ungender, Right management, SDG Academy, Swati Initiative and Samhita Ventures. Kavitha said that this year’s Telangana Jagruthi India Youth Fellows would give their presentation of their work for one hour. TJIYLC 2019 will create a platform for nearly 600 delegates from all across the world as well as 100 guest speakers from different countries and they will come together and celebrate SDG, and make the world a better place to live, said Kavitha.
