Suryapet cops bring in folk art to educate voters

Suryapet: The district police, which have been taking several measures to curb violence in hypersensitive and sensitive villages during the upcoming gram panchayat elections in the district, going a step further, have been organising cultural programmes to educate people about the importance of vote under the name “Police Mee Mitrulu”, which was conceptualised by the district SP R Venkateshwarlu .

After getting good results in the recently-held Assembly elections, the district police have been continuing the same technique and organising shows with artistes in both hypersensitive and sensitive villages. The police has identified 43 villages as hypersensitive and 101 as sensitive in Suryapet district. 

As part of educating people of sensitive villages, the artistes of cultural wing of the department have been explaining the consequences of involving in attacks and quarrels during the elections besides the importance of casting vote. 

District SP R Venkateshwarlu, speaking to The Hans India, informed that the district police have been taking all sorts of measures for conducting fair and free gram panchayat elections in the district.

Apart from security measures, including establishment of CCTV cameras, people of the sensitive villages are being educated about the consequences of involving in quarrels and attacks besides educating them on the importance casting their votes through meetings and art forms, as the people of the rural areas of the State are very inclined towards folk songs and dances since ancient times.
