Nacharam: Removal of hyacinth at Patel Kunta Cheruvu and HMT Pedda Cheruvu has been going on for the past few days in the division. Though the works at Patel Kunta Cheruvu were completed more than one month back, nobody is there to dispose of the pile of removed hyacinth near the tank.

Due to this, people in the surrounding areas such as Errakunta, Ambedkar Nagar and Erukala Basti are suffering from rancid smell and mosquito menace. They are also forced to spend sleepless nights.

The vexed people have complained of negligence by contractors and officials in removing the hyacinth. A resident Narsing Rao said that the local people are gripped by fear of diseases due to heaps of hyacinth.

Another resident Haribabu said that they were not happy about the way it was removed from the tank and dumping on the shore. They have demand that the officials act on it at the earliest.

When contacted, local corporator Shanthi admitted the problems facing by the residents. She said that after their protests only the state government sanctioned funds to remove hyacinth from the tanks.

Shanthi said that removal work was completed at Patel Kunta Cheruvu and she attributed the delay in transporting piles of hyacinth to non-allotment of funds. She assured to solve the problem after discussing with the officials concerned.
