Hyderabad: Allergen-specific Immunotherapy is now globally considered to be the best treatment for allergic patients. The treatment targets the cause and eradicates the allergens. Immunotherapy has proved that upon treatment the allergy symptoms in patients decrease by 42%, and the in-take of medications in patients decrease by 43%. According to the International Patients Registry, people from different parts of the world are now reaching Hyderabad to seek specialised care for allergy and immunology.
Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar, said, “Overall, there is a significant reduction in both symptoms and medication among patients after the treatment. The treatment helps allergic patients reducing the intake of medications. The safest route of treatment is known as the Sub Lingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) has got a long-lasting effect even after the treatment is stopped.”
SLIT is the safest treatment and it requires no steroid or any antibiotic. It has been found to be significant in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Such a treatment method was limited to developed countries only. With Hyderabad having world-class facilities, people worldwide are preferring the city for such an advanced state of the art treatment for allergies like Asthma, Rhinitis, Sinusitis, Skin Rashes, Food Allergies, Dust Allergies in the city.
Dr Vyakarnam said, “Almost 70% of the patients responded well with notable and significant clinical improvement. The most common allergen was, ‘House Dust Mite,’ a microbial organism, cockroach, Alternaria and parthenium weed. Unfortunately, any kind of inhalers or tablets will not bring sustained relief to such allergic symptoms in patients as long as they get exposed to these allergens regularly. However, the patients responded well to SLIT.”
“Children respond well for immunotherapy, so it is important for children to be screened for allergies by allergy skin testing, and then start the required immunotherapy for bringing them out of allergies in an early stage. ‘Allergic Atopic March’ leads to multi-organ allergies (lungs, nose, eyes, sinus, skin, and stomach) in later part of life.”
