GHMC staff removes 736 encroachments

 Hyderabad: In a special drive to remove temporary and permanent encroachments on footpaths, GHMC enforcement authorities cleared 736 illegal constructions on footpaths on Sunday. Enforcement director Vishwajit Kampati said that a total of 736 encroachments were removed on Sunday against the daily target of 449 encroachments which were identified initially by the enforcement authorities.

A total of total 14,336 encroachments, including those removed on Sunday, as part of the drive, he said.On Sunday morning, GHMC enforcement, town planning, UCD, engineering, traffic, law and order and police staff started removing the encroachments on footpaths of two different roads, one from Tata show room to Allwyn Cross Roads and another from Excise police station to RC Puram police station.

 Six teams participated in the programme on the Pipeline Road. The authorities demolished only those structures which were obstructing footpaths. Authorities ensured that no temporary structures of poor people were demolished during the drive. 

These measures were taken under GHMC Section 504 in view of the High Court instructions to GHMC to remove illegal constructions on footpath, Vishwajit said. He said that the drive received positive response from people. The special drive would be undertaken again on the next Saturday.
