IAS trainees study initiatives by GHMC

Hyderabad: As part of ‘Winter Study Tour’ on Prime Minister’s Award for Innovative Initiatives by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), a batch of IAS trainees consisting of 20 officers visited GHMC Head Office here on Monday.Among various initiatives taken by GHMC, a power point presentation was made on the developmental activities, revenue resources, finance, solid waste management and 2 BHK housing scheme.

Additional Commissioner, Revenue, Adwait Kumar Singh, explained the good practices for increasing revenue like improvement in tax collection by imposing property tax on under assessed properties, collecting commercial activities data from Electricity, Commercial and Trade License departments and also with the help of vector map thereby imposing commercial property tax on those doing business in residential areas. Further, he explained about early bird scheme, various revenue avenues like collection of trade license advertisement tax and building permission fee.  
     
Additional Commissioner, Finance, Jayaraj Kennedy made presentation on financing on basic amenities like on street light maintenance, city roads, parks and nala desilting, etc and tapping municipal bonds from the capital market for SRDP projects. Chief Engineer Suresh explained about construction of 2BHK housing schemes, ongoing projects at various places and its implementation after convincing some of the slum dwellers through NGOs and going for vertical structures and its advantages due to constrain of land space in cities.
   
Solid Waste Management Executive Engineer Srinivas Reddy explained the collection of garbage and its transportation to the dump yard and GHMC efforts in protection of environment and the dump yard capping with 7 layers.

  Later, Director of the Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management wing of the Corporation, Viswajit Kampati explained the hierarchy of the department and its duties, like removal of encroachment on pavements, demolition of illegal structures and action team in case of disaster. Additional Commissioner & Zonal Commissioner Hari Chandana, Additional Commissioner Vijaya Laxmi and other senior officials attended the meeting.
