Palamuru lift irrigation scheme gets Centre’s nod

Hyderabad: All major hurdles for the long-pending Palamuru- Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) were cleared on Friday. The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has accorded final environmental clearances (stage -2) to the lift irrigation scheme taken up by the Telangana state government to address irrigation and drinking water needs in south Telangana districts. The Union ministry gave its nod to the state’s request to the diversion of 205 .4811 hectares of forest land in the Achampet division of Nagarkurnool districts for taking up lift works, formation of Anjanagiri and Veeranjaneya reservoir under PRLIS scheme. 

“It is another key step,” KCR, who is in Yagam, said and expressed his happiness over the permission granted for the forest clearance for the lift irrigation project. He also conveyed his thanks to Union Minister for Environment and Forests Harsh Vardhan. The CM also appreciated the efforts of the officials of the Irrigation and Forest Departments. The project envisages lifting 90 tmc ft of flood waters at the rate of 1.5 tmc ft per day for 60 days from the foreshores of Srisailam reservoir at Yellur in Kollapur mandal of Nagarkurnool district.
