High decibel campaign underway for GP polls
Parigi: With polls approaching fast, candidates have stepped up their efforts to woo the voters in every possible way. Candidates are taking part in round-the-clock campaign to get elected. Candidates are spending sleepless nights as they are busy making strategies to defeat opponents.As many as 368 candidates are contesting for 125 panchayats in Pudur, Doma, Parigi and Kalkacharla mandals whereas 2,301 are in the poll fray for 1,042 wards.
Candidates are meeting all community elders and youth leaders to seek their support. They are offering money, liquor, and household items to get them voted to seat. It is learned that some contestants are selling properties and others are borrowing money to meet their election expenditure.
As new panchayat act enables vice sarpanch with cheque power all parties took ward members’ election prestigious. Leaders are pacifying the candidates who are not given the opportunity to contest and assuring them of other nominated posts.
Candidates are paying Rs 500 to 1000 for each to get accompanied them in campaigning. Those who are staying in cities have been offered travel expenses along with other perks to vote in favor of them.Ironically, no candidate is assuring the voters regarding development of village and implementing the welfare schemes.
