Hyderabad: Yummy varieties of biryani showcased
Uppal: The ‘Ghar ki Biryani’ contest organised by The Hans India at DBR Gardens, Peerzadiguda, evoked spontaneous and wholehearted response from the residents of Sai Ishvarya Colony Welfare Association. Over 34 housewives participated in the event to showcase their culinary skills. While 25 contestants displayed their talent in cooking non-veg biryani, 9 participants showed their mouth-watering biryani in vegetarian category. Housewives served a variety of non-veg and vegetarian biryani delicacies home cooked by them.
The contest was curated by chef K Karunakar, a faculty from Regency College of Hotel Management & Catering Technologies. Sharing his views on the ongoing ‘Ghar Ki Biryani’ contest Karunakar, said, “This is the 8th competition which I’m judging. The motto of the competition is to bring out all the women out of the kitchens. If given opportunity, they can cook best biryanis in the city, because Hyderabad is very famous for biryani.
This I can tell after judging so many biryanis cooked by housewives and working women, who all are competing for the best biryani title. Everyone has a specific flavor to their biryani because they are using all organic spices which are homemade and that’s what makes this biryani different from what we eat in the hotels.”
The Sai Ishvarya Colony Welfare Association president and one of the participants, B Saritha Devi, said, “This is a great initiative for housewives like us to come out of our busy household responsibilities and participate. It’s like a get-together for all of us and we thank The Hans India for organising this competition and giving us a platform to showcase our talents.” Out of 40 the participants, Anita Kiran emerged the winner in the non-veg category while G Vasantha bagged the first prize in the veg category.
This is the 10th society conducting the ‘Ghar ki Biryani’ competition and there are 10 more societies to go. The date for the finale will be announced after the participation of 40 societies. Each competition will have 2 winners one in non-veg category and other in veg category. A total number of 40 participants from all over Hyderabad will compete for the best biryani title.
