Mouth-watering biryani fare at NRR Puram
NRR Puram: The ‘Ghar ki Biryani’ contest organised by The Hans India at NRR Puram Colony, Site 3, Borabanda, took by storm the residents and guests at the event. With over 70 housewives participating in the event, it was more of a festival than a contest. As many as 70 different kinds of non-veg and veg biryanis were cooked in the open, enveloping the whole area in rich fragrances of biryani and creating hunger pangs in all.
Though everybody tries to keep away from smoke, it was a pleasant experience at the NRR Colony as aromatic smells of various kinds of spices and tadkas filled the air. Speaking of the great response to the “Ghar ki Biryani” contest, THI General Manager B Sai Reddy said, “The Hans India has always given priority to women-oriented programmes and we support events where women get good opportunity to showcase their talents. Ghar ki Biryani is also one of such events where housewives and working women can come and show their cooking skills.
This is the 11th programme till now and the response that we have received is really very overwhelming. It’s really good to see so much variety in just one dish of biryani. We want to spread the message of women empowerment through events like this and I thank all the housewives and their families and all the gated communities who have contributed in making the programme a grand success.”
Zaheera Begun from NRR Colony was the in-charge of gathering of all women who participated in the contest. She said, “I’m very happy that Hans India has organised this programme in our locality as we never got a chance earlier. Most of the women here are participating for the first time and all of us were very excited since morning about this contest. We wish that we get more such opportunities in near future.”
The locality has a good presence of Muslims. They served a different type of biryani known as Mandi, which originated in Hadhramaut, Yemen, and is a traditional dish there. It consists mainly of meat and rice with a special blend of spices.Out of 70 the participants, Seema Sulthana emerged winner in the non-veg category, whereas Waheda Begum bagged the first prize in the veg category.
